Selection Process
We have two teams: varsity and JV. Both teams are allowed four members and one alternate, with one member being captain and one being co-captain. Although it certainly does not dictate a student's worth or intellectual ability, the qualifier test taken towards the beginning of the school year does determine who is on the team.
The top ten highest scoring students will make up our Science Bowl teams. The test taker to score the highest on the qualifying test will be the varsity captain, and the following three ranks will be the other varsity members. Similarly, the test taker to score fifth highest will be JV captain, and the following three ranks will be the other members. Ranks nine and ten will be the varsity alternate and JV alternate, respectively, and will still attend all team practices and step in if anything should happen to any member. Those ranked directly below the captains will serve as co-captains for their teams, and will step in as captain should anything happen to their corresponding captain.
In the event of a tie, the two (or more) candidates will enter a short buzzer round, and the first person to get two questions right wins the position.
Team members should come to every club meeting, which doubles as team practices. Both teams are able to go to regionals, but only one team can win regionals and go to nationals!
